Mission Health offers forward-looking services for cancer survivors like you; offering hope, courage and support. Once you've completed treatment, our staff will coordinate future screenings, rehabilitation, nutritional guidance and care for your emotional well-being.

As a result of advances in diagnostics and treatments, more people than ever are surviving cancer. Our survivorship care and support services can make all the difference as you navigate treatment and follow-up care.

Cancer support services and resources

When you have completed your treatment, it can be a time of mixed emotions. You may be unsure of what to do next. It is essential for you to have tools to help you move beyond your illness so that your quality of life can improve,

Chaplain care

Through a compassionate and listening presence, our chaplain provides supportive counseling to cancer patients and their families who are dealing with the emotional, spiritual and social changes that a cancer diagnosis often brings.

Clinical social worker services

Financial counseling

We can assist you with estimates, payment options, medications and the particulars of your insurance benefits. For more information, call us at 828-213-6569.

Nicotine dependence program

We offer evidence-based care for smokers who want to quit in a nonjudgmental and supportive manner. With the understanding that all individuals are unique, our nicotine dependence program will work with you to develop a customized plan to quit tobacco. Please call (828) 213-2222, option two, for more information.

Nurse navigators

Our oncology nurse navigators are your touchpoint from diagnosis through survivorship. They provide education, resources, coordination, advocacy and emotional support.

Physical therapy and speech therapy

Our physical therapy offers programs for lymphedema, decreased range of motion, peripheral neuropathy, incontinence, balance problems, pain and fatigue. We also offer speech therapy for speech and voice issues, swallowing issues and cognitive impairment. Call us at (828) 213-2222, option two. A physician referral is required.

Cancer survivorship services

Survivorship care addresses your long-term needs as a cancer survivor. Your survivorship care plan is crafted by your oncologist, and can be key to more positive outcomes. Following this plan will help you transition back to your primary care provider with a concise summary and plan for your future, ensuring that all of your needs are met. Survivorship care embraces four components:

  • Coordination between your cancer specialists and primary care physicians
  • Intervention for long-term and late effects from cancer and its therapies
  • Monitoring, detection and prevention of new and recurrent cancers

Cancer survivors are not all alike. The specific services you need and how they are carried out will differ from what others may need. However, there are types of services that all cancer survivors need, including:

  • Empowerment to advocate for your own healthcare needs
  • Exercise and health activities
  • Financial and insurance assistance
  • Genetic risk counseling
  • Health education and nutrition services
  • Management of any emotional side effects
  • Screening recommendations and scheduling
